The Inspiration

The cool maritime slopes of the Helderberg have become one of South Africa's most exciting homes for Chardonnay, producing wines of remarkable freshness, purity and natural elegance. Constant False Bay breezes and ancient decomposed granite soils allow the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly, preserving vibrant acidity and a crystalline expression of place that defines this exceptional terroir. Farmed according to certified organic and biodynamic principles, Longridge nurtures healthy, living vineyards where balance comes naturally rather than through intervention. The wine then matures for twelve months across three vessels - 20% new French oak, 20% seasoned French oak and 60% amphora clay and cement eggs - before being blended and bottled. This unique approach gives the wine its remarkable breadth: oak provides structure, concrete contributes texture, and clay enhances aromatic purity. The result is a Chardonnay of extraordinary fruit purity, finesse and precision, consistently recognized as one of South Africa's finest value Chardonnays and a benchmark expression of the estate's philosophy: Wisdom in Wine.

About Longridge

Wisdom in Wine. The Ridge that Endures.

Longridge is a regenerative wine estate in Stellenbosch, rooted in organic and biodynamic farming and dedicated to producing wines of purity, precision and place. Situated on the cool slopes of the Helderberg - just three miles from False Bay - the estate (Anno 1841) farms with a long-term commitment to soil health, vineyard balance and ecological stewardship. Nguni cattle graze the vineyards, ducks patrol the rows, and a steady maritime influence defines the coolest pocket of the Stellenbosch appellation. In the cellar, the approach is guided by restraint - allowing the vineyards and vintage to define the character of each wine. The result is a collection of elegant, terroir-driven wines that combine freshness, structure and authenticity with global fine-wine relevance: from estate Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay through structured reds and the celebrated Emily Rosé, all reflecting the unique character of the Helderberg terroir.
