Natasha Williams & Wade Sander

Lalela in Zulu simply means "Come Listen", and that invitation is at the heart of this project from winemaking power couple Wade Sander and Natasha Williams. The venture aims to tell the untold story of all of the people in South Africa and their influence and participation across four hundred years of winemaking history. Through each bottle, Lalela shares stories and reflections of the Cape Winelands inspired by the people, traditions and heritage that shaped them.

Wade and Natasha have used their combined two decades of experience to source exceptional fruit from across the Western Cape, which they process at their shared facility in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Wade honed his craft at Mullineux and in the Loire Valley, while Natasha brings her own acclaimed winemaking talent to the partnership.

Lalela is one of the most exciting projects to come out of the Western Cape to date, crafted by two of the most sought-after young winemakers in South Africa. A Black-owned label currently in limited production, each wine in the range is a deliberate act of storytelling, from the Heritage White and Heritage Red to the single-varietal Cinsaut, all made with the care and intentionality that comes from winemakers deeply connected to the land and its people.

Lalela is an invitation to listen to the untold stories of the people, traditions and heritage that have shaped South African wine.

Spotlight - the Lalela project

Every Label Has a Voice

Before the vineyards were chosen or the wines were blended, Wade Sander and Natasha Williams began with the stories. Each Lalela label celebrates the people whose contributions to South African wine have too often gone untold - from pioneering women and vineyard workers to communities whose heritage is woven into the Cape Winelands. Every bottle is an invitation to look beyond the wine, listen to the voices behind it, and rediscover the rich cultural tapestry that defines the Cape.
