The Inspiration

This Unoaked Chardonnay is made for those who enjoy white wine without heaviness and wish to drink with ease. It brings together ocean-facing Helderberg (cool area of Stellenbosch) fruit for depth and concentration with Robertson fruit from alluvial soils for freshness, minerality and lift.

Separate parcels are picked at different levels of ripeness and fermented in stainless steel using free-run juice only. Part of the wine ferments naturally, and six months on the lees with occasional bâtonnage builds texture and depth - without oak.

The result is a fresher, more vibrant expression of Chardonnay: textured but not heavy, expressive and a great choice for those who normally find richer Chardonnay too weighty - they will not be disappointed. This sits neatly within The Winery of Good Hope philosophy of thoughtful sourcing, minimal intervention and individuality.

About The Winery of Good Hope

Drink Well. Do Good.

The Winery of Good Hope was founded on a spirit of optimism and the philosophy of "Drink Well. Do Good." - a belief in the extraordinary potential of South Africa, its vineyards and its people. Created by the Radford Dale team as a place to explore new ideas, it has become a testing ground for vineyard sites, meso-climates and innovative techniques, always with the same uncompromising focus on quality and individuality that defines the wider house.

Based in Stellenbosch in the Cape of Good Hope, it is more than a winery - it represents an alternative way of thinking, being and doing. From the slopes of the Helderberg, wines are made with traditional, natural viticultural and winemaking methods, supported by fully accredited environmental, ethical and social-upliftment practices.

That progressive thinking extends beyond the vineyard. A 2024 relaunch introduced recyclable packaging and lightweight 410 g bottles as part of a broader philosophy of care and responsibility. Sustainability is viewed as an ongoing process, encompassing how the land is farmed, how people are treated and the materials used throughout the value chain.

The Winery of Good Hope also supports the Land of Hope Educational Trust, established in 2007 to create educational opportunities and now chaired by Cathy van Zyl MW, Africa's first Master of Wine. It gives "Good Hope" a purpose that extends beyond the wines - investing in people, opportunity and the future.
