The Inspiration
The Lighthouse Range was created to entice the palate with all the special qualities brought to you by a cool climate wine while being more approachable and accessible in its youth. As an ode to the treacherous yet extraordinary Cape coast, a lighthouse was built at the Benguela Cove winery, overlooking the vineyards, Bot River lagoon, and the Atlantic Ocean. This style of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc takes you right to the ocean’s edge where you can smell the salt in the air. Following suit with its predecessors, this is a very popular wine. Bone-dry with a citrus-like acidity, the fruit leaps from the glass to remind you where it is from. Its vibrant character makes it a great food companion but with plenty of fruit and a crisp palate, it’s also perfect to pour as an aperitif.
About Benguela Cove
Cool climate wines from the shores of the lagoon
Benguela Cove is a prestigious wine estate on the shores of the Walker Bay lagoon in South Africa's Western Cape. Founded by Penny Streeter OBE, one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs in South Africa, the estate has been transformed since 2013 through her sheer determination and vision. At one time living in a homeless refuge with three children, Penny built a business empire that includes Benguela Cove, a testament to hard work and tenacity.
The estate's identity is deeply connected to the Streeter family's journey between South Africa and England. A swallow (symbolising migration) represents this transatlantic connection and the family's commitment to blending cultures, values and traditions across both nations. Proudly boasting some of the most sought-after terroirs in the Western Cape overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Benguela Cove has unique and beautiful stories to tell.
Brought to life on the shores of the lagoon, cool maritime winds caress the vines, resulting in a cooler median daytime temperature that allows for slow ripening and preserves the gentle characteristics of these cool-climate wines. Proudly carrying the stamp of Wine of Origin Walker Bay, all wines are crafted with minimal intervention by award-winning cellar master Johann Fourie, producing wines celebrated for their exceptional quality and distinctive character. The estate has been ranked among the World's Best Vineyards in successive years: number 53 in 2023 and number 86 in 2024.
