The Inspiration

The Swartland has become one of South Africa's most famous wine regions, renowned for its dry-farmed bush vines, granite and shale soils, and wines of authenticity and premium character. It is here that Pinotage thrives, producing wines of remarkable concentration while retaining freshness and balance. Kumusha Swartland Pinotage is a modern expression of South Africa's signature grape showcasing amazing vintage variation slowly revealing layers of ripe black fruit intertwined with the variety's distinctive smoky, savory and gently meaty notes. Fine tannins, vibrant acidity and restrained oak create a wine that is elegant, expressive and unmistakably Swartland reflecting Tinashe Nyamudoka's philosophy of allowing exceptional vineyards to tell their own story.

About Kumusha

Kumusha: your home, your roots, your origin

Kumusha in the Zimbabwean Shona language translates to "your home", "your roots" or "your origin". The name captures the essence of what world-renowned sommelier Tinashe Nyamudoka set out to create: wines that honor where they come from and speak authentically of their place. Tinashe believes the best wines are representative of their region. After relocating from Zimbabwe to South Africa in 2008, his career arc (from polishing cutlery in his first restaurant role to becoming an award-winning sommelier and one of the country's most respected wine voices) gave him an intimate understanding of what defines exceptional South African wine. He is now building a Black-owned South African wine brand. Minimal-intervention winemaking and natural fermentation are at the core of the Kumusha philosophy, aimed at letting the wine speak freely of its origin. From the flagship Kumusha range to the experimental Wild Mutupo series, these are wines that Tinashe would not only like to drink himself, but wines that are representative of what is leading the way for the new style of South African wines on the global stage.
